Backing Up Data

Chapter 9 of the book Radio UserLand Kick Start by Rogers Cadenhead, published by Sams Publishing

Radio UserLand's content-management system and all of its other features are built on top of an object database, a sophisticated data structure that contains most of the code and data that runs the software.

You can find the main object database, Radio.root, in the software's installation folder.

Most of the code that gives the software its functionality is written in the UserTalk scripting language, stored in Radio.root, and exposed to users. You can view this code to learn how Radio is programmed and even modify it yourself, at the risk of introducing bugs and altering the software's performance in other unpleasant ways.

The next three chapters explore Radio.root and the other object databases. Because these files can be an extremely perilous place for a new learner to putter around, the first topic covered is how to back up and restore the software and all of Radio's databases and files.
